DIAGONALE/2 - Ausstellung

Eine Ausstellung der weißensee kunsthochschule berlin mit Arbeiten von 20 Künstler_innen im „Verwalterhaus. Aktuelle Kunst und Kultur in Berlin“, Prenzlauer Allee 1, 10405 Berlin. Zur Zeit geschlossen.

Die Diagonale/2 geht hervor – wie schon die Diagonale/1 – wie schon jeder Impuls der modernen Kunst – aus einer Beschäftigung mit dem Heiligen, dem Vertikalen.

Je nach künstlerischer Position ergeben sich unterschiedliche Antworten in der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Heiligen, festgehalten in einem Abglanz des Vertikalen, als Kunst eben, diagonal. Es ist offensichtlich, dass eine Gesellschaft nicht nur im Horizontalen leben kann. Heute spüren wir das noch mehr denn je, denn die Moderne steht am Abgrund. Die Diagonale zeigt als Problematisierung dieses Abgrunds einige Begegnungen zwischen dem Endlichen, dem Horizontalen, und dem Unendlichen, dem Vertikalen. Es gibt Künstler*innen, die kommen die Treppe herunter, und es gibt Künstler*innen, die gehen die Treppe hinauf. Was bleibt ist das Diagonale. Wir sind dem Spruch des Romantikers Novalis verpflichtet: „Kunst ist entweder Tempeldienst oder Tempelraub.“

The Diagonal / 2 - like the Diagonal / 1 - like every impulse of modern art - comes from an occupation with the holy, the vertical. Depending on the artistic position, there are different answers in the confrontation with the holy, held only in a gloss of the vertical, as art, diagonal. It's obvious that a society can't just live in the horizontal. Today we feel this even more than ever, as modernity is on the edge. The diagonal shows as a problematization of this abyss some encounters between the finite, the horizontal, and the infinite, the vertical. There are artists coming down the stairs and there are artists climbing up the stairs. What remains is the diagonal. We are committed to the saying of the Romantic Novalis: ”Art is either temple service or temple robbery”.
