Sommersemester 2009,
Tourist View (Video - color/sound, 7:37’ DVD)
-“Tourist photographs offer indisputable evidence that the trip was made, that the program was carried out, that fun was had. They document sequences of consumption carried on outside the view of family, friends, and neighbors. (...)The camera is the device that makes real what one is experiencing, taking photograph is a way of certifying the experience.”
Boris Groys
“Tourist view” is a further development of the project “From A to B” with focus on the tourist gaze and the need to take hundreds of photos of the same motives chosen and predetermined by the tourist industry, although they already exist in numerous exemplary e.g. the Brandenburg Gate, the Eiffel Tour, the Egyptian Pyramid etc. Showing only sequences of tourists clicking their cameras in front of a tourist attraction (the attraction is not to be seen) in this video I aim to open the question: Why the tourist has the need to document the city monuments and at the same time to also monumentalize himself in front of them?
